All Year 5 Students in 2017

All incoming Year 5 families will need to attend an information evening regarding our one to one program. This evening will cover the College’s philosophy regarding how the technology should be used to bring the most benefit to your child’s education. We also will address current issues related to technology in general and steps that can be taken to build good digital citizenship practices.

In 2017, the Year 5 information night will be held a week after school starts in conjunction with the PBL information evening held at Reedy Creek on Monday 30th January from 6-7pm in the King’s Church Auditorium. A similar evening will be held for Pimpama parents on Tuesday 31st January from 6pm. Parents will need to bring photo ID to sign a contract for the device that will be allocated to your child.

Parents or guardians, please familiarise yourself with our 1-1 Technology Policy before the evening. This policy can be found here.

Headphones with microphone

Please purchase some headphones with a microphone for your child. These are available at most retailers including the large department stores as well as electrical retailers. King’s do not provide these due to hygiene reasons.

Increasingly, work on both Macbook Airs and iPads requires multi-modal elements where a microphone is needed. Educationally, being able to articulate your learning assists in retaining information.

New to King’s and in Year 6-12

If you are new to the College you will need to attend a compulsory information evening regarding our one to one program. This evening will cover the College’s philosophy regarding how the technology should be used to bring the most benefit to your child’s education. We also will address current issues related to technology in general and steps that can be taken to build good digital citizenship practices.

Year 6 and new students to High School will meet in the Auditorium on Tuesday 24th January from 6pm.

Please note: Parents will need to bring photo ID as they will need to sign a contract and have your ID sighted before picking up the device. At least one parent and the child receiving the device needs to be in attendance.

You will need to familiarise yourself with the 1-1 Technology Policy prior to attendance. This policy can be found here.

Continuing students in Years 6-12

If you are returning from last year and are part of the program already, you will either need to pick up the same device as last year or a new one depending on where you are in the technology cycle. Check the table below to see where you are in the cycle and whether a parent needs to sign a new contract. Parents, please remember that your photo ID is required if you are signing out a brand new device. You will need to familiarise yourself with the 1-1 Technology Policy. This policy can be found here.

School-provided devices are on a two year cycle which begins in Year 5. For example, If a child receives a device in Year 5, they will use the same device through to the end of Year 6. The following year, they will be issued a new device which will require a new contract to be signed.

Students in the second year of the cycle can pick up the device without a parent present.
